How changes work after your first draft
Every film we edit comes with room to change it. This page sets out how revisions work: how many rounds are included, what counts as a standard change, which requests need a new scope agreed first, and how to send notes so your changes land in one round instead of three.
We would rather you asked for a change than lived with a film you were not happy with. Small adjustments are included as standard and we do not count them jealously — if a cut lands wrong, a name is misspelled, the music sits too loud, or a shot should have been someone else's, tell us and we will fix it.
This page is not a list of ways to say no. It exists so the line between refining the film and making a different film is agreed in writing, before either of us is surprised by it.
How Many Revision Rounds Are Included
Every project includes four rounds of revisions: one internal alignment round, where the film is checked against your intake form before it ever reaches you, and three client rounds after the first draft is delivered.
Most projects finish inside one or two client rounds. The third exists so nobody is rushing the last five percent of a film that will be watched for decades.
What Counts as a Standard Revision
A standard revision refines the film that already exists. If the structure, length and creative direction stay as agreed, and the request is about making that version better, it is included:
- Trimming, extending or reordering individual clips
- Swapping a specific shot for a different take
- Colour, contrast and exposure adjustments
- Audio balance — music levels, speech clarity, ducking under dialogue
- Titles, names, dates and spelling corrections
- Retiming a cut so it lands better against the music
- Removing a specific moment you would rather not include
- Small pacing adjustments within an existing section
We are deliberately generous here. Unless a request is unusually long, or would require the film to be dismantled and reassembled, treat it as included. We want the film to be exactly what you wanted.
What Needs Additional Scope Approval
The requests below are not revisions — they are re-edits. Each one rebuilds work that is already finished rather than refining it, so each needs to be agreed and quoted before we start:
- Completely reframing the video — a different concept built from the same footage
- Switching between chronological and non-chronological pacing
- Significantly altering the storyline or narrative flow
- Substantially increasing or decreasing the agreed duration
- Adding or removing an entire section
- Requesting a new creative style, a new music concept, or extensive sound redesign
- Changes required because the intake form was incomplete or inaccurate
Why these sit outside a standard round
Every one of these means rearranging the film completely and breaking the flow it already has. The structure has to come apart and be rebuilt around a different spine, and the timing, transitions, sound and colour work all follow it.
The honest version: a change of this kind can take almost as long as building the film from scratch. That is why it is scoped and quoted rather than absorbed — we would rather price it openly than take it on quietly and rush the result.
Why the Intake Form Matters More Than Anything Else
The intake form is not administration. It is the standard the film is built to.
It is where you tell us the theme and overall direction, the moments that must appear, the people who matter, correct spellings and pronunciations, the music direction, and anything in the footage you would rather we did not use. We edit to what it says.
Filled in thoroughly, it lets us align with your intention before editing starts, and the first draft usually needs very little. Filled in thinly, we are guessing — and a good guess in the wrong direction still produces a complete edit.
Direction that arrives after the form is submitted is still accommodated, and we absorb it wherever we reasonably can. What cannot be absorbed is a late change intensive enough to require the film to be rebuilt. That is quoted as additional scope — not as a penalty, but because the work has to be done again rather than refined.
Please fill the form in properly. It is the highest-leverage part of the whole process.
How to Send Revision Notes
All feedback goes on the Frame.io link that carries your video files — not by email, chat or a separate document. Comments left there are attached to the film itself, which removes most of the ambiguity a written note introduces.
- Comment directly on Frame.io. It captures the exact frame automatically as you write, so you never need to note a timecode yourself — play, pause where it matters, and type.
- Send one consolidated list per round, rather than notes as they occur to you.
- Say what you want, not only what is wrong. "Hold this shot longer" is actionable; "this feels off" is not.
A single consolidated pass on Frame.io is normally resolved in one round. Notes drip-fed across several places and several days turn one round into three, for both of us.
Turnaround Time on Revisions
Standard turnaround for a first draft is 7 to 8 working days.
We do not quote a fixed turnaround for revision rounds, because it genuinely depends on two things: our current schedule, and how intensive the changes are. A short list of small adjustments comes back quickly. A long list, or one that reaches into the structure of the film, takes longer. We confirm the date once we have read your notes.
If a project needs to move to the front of the queue, expedited delivery in 48 to 72 hours is available at +50% of the project price.
How Long You Have to Request Changes
Revisions stay open for two months from first delivery.
What Happens to Your Project Files
We keep project files for 40 days after the final draft is delivered — that is, once the film has been confirmed by both the couple and you. The clock starts at that confirmation rather than at the first draft, so the retention window never closes while revisions are still in progress.
After 40 days the backup is deleted. We do not hold client footage indefinitely — it is your client's material, and it is not ours to keep.
Download and archive your masters as soon as the film is signed off. Once the retention window closes, the delivered files are the only copies.

Can I change the music after the first draft?

Small trims are a standard revision. Substantially increasing or decreasing the agreed duration is not, because it changes which moments the film is built around and requires the structure to be rebuilt.
What happens if I did not fill in the intake form properly?
The intake form is the standard the film is built to, so changes arising from missing or inaccurate information in it fall outside standard revisions. We still absorb what we reasonably can — it is only when a late change is intensive enough to require a rebuild that it is quoted separately. A thorough form is the single best thing you can do to keep a project on track.
